The Odyssey of Makoko: Goodbye Sardinia: 28th July

MAKOKO is a French Amel Super Mamaru built in 1996. She is a 16 metre ketch built for short handed sailing, cruising comfort and speed off wind. She had one owner since new; Jean-Claude and his wife Claudie cruised her around the world for 12 years. The origin of the name Makoko is interesting.Jean-Claude and Claudie lived in Nigeria for many years and Koko is the Nigerian word for grandmother and ma in French is my; we love the name and during our ownnership have become grandparents too!

Goodbye Sardinia: 28th July

Sailed west from Malfatano to Porto Pinno a beautiful large bay with sandy beaches and even sand dunes.

Sardinia has limited develpoment to within 500 metres of the coast so it is unspoilt compared with Turkey, Greece and Italy.

Today we begin our voyage across to the Balearics as good winds are forecast.
